Dr. Chase Morgan-Swaney is an assistant professor of counseling at 黑料老司机. Prior to joining BW, Morgan-Swaney served as a senior lecturer in the School of Counseling at The University of Akron, teaching across accredited clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and marriage and family therapy/counseling programs. He is a licensed professional clinical counselor with a training supervision designation (LPCC-S) in Ohio. He holds national certifications as a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). He specializes in counselor preparation and training to affirmatively serve LGBTQ+ clients.

Teaching and Clinical Supervision

As a counselor educator who engages in active clinical practice, Morgan-Swaney endeavors to ensure that course content and experiential learning components are meaningful, applicable, and connected to the roles and responsibilities that students will engage in as licensed professionals. At BW, he teaches both didactic courses, such as Group Counseling and Trauma-Informed Counseling, as well as experiential courses, including counseling skill-based courses and the practicum and internship course sequence. As a supervisor, Morgan-Swaney integrates contextual behavioral, feminist, and reflective developmental approaches, meeting students where they are while encouraging growth in their counseling style, cultural humility, and professional identity.

Clinical Experience

Morgan-Swaney has practiced as a counselor since 2017 in various settings, including private practice, community mental health, a university counseling clinic, and an outpatient pediatric hospital. His clinical work focuses on providing individual counseling for LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse adolescents and adults who are experiencing anxiety, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma-related concerns, OCD, and mental health concerns stemming from discrimination, prejudice, and oppression. His clinical approach is predominantly contextual behavioral (e.g., acceptance and commitment therapy [ACT]) through an affirmative, feminist lens.

Scholarship and Community Engagement

Morgan-Swaney is a practitioner-scholar who has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters with topics spanning multicultural and social justice counseling, feminist intersectional therapy, and creative andragogical methods. He frequently presents at state and national professional counseling conferences and serves as a reviewer for Counselor Education and Supervision. Morgan-Swaney is deeply engaged in professional leadership, currently serving as President-elect of the Ohio Counseling Association (OCA). He is also a past president of the Ohio Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (OACES), the North Central Ohio Counseling Association (NCOCA), and the Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Identities of Ohio (SAIGEO). Through his servant leadership, he has been a steadfast advocate for clients, oppressed communities, and the profession as a whole.
